Chino Facing Public Safety Retention Challenge

Chino Police Officers are in high demand. Our officers are highly trained, ethical, engaged in this community and that makes them a hot commodity for other police departments. Unfortunately, the City has failed to maintain competitive pay and benefits which has created a situation where officers are leaving at an unprecedented rate to other police departments who are offering far superior pay and benefits. This year alone, the police department is facing the prospect of losing up to 10 officers to other agencies. These are experienced, highly trained officers. To replace them will take at least two years, to replace their experience can take over 5 years or more!
The City needs to take swift action to help retain our valuable officers. Our officers are near the bottom of the salary survey of competitive agencies. The City can fix this problem quickly by adjusting the pay rate for our officers to retain their valuable skills and expertise. In this time of rising crime and lessened penalties for criminals we need our officers more than ever. Retaining our officers is critical to the ability of our police department to keep criminals at bay.
